In this tale of the supernatural, a young Brigitte
Lin Ching Hsia plays a ghost who ends up involved with a scholar. Before
we get to that point of the story, though, we learn about the scholar.
The scholar’s mother has regained a measure of
good health after being quite sick. Being a good and devoted son, it
falls upon the scholar to perform certain tasks in her behalf. In order
to complete the final task, he travels to an isolated location so he can
have peace and quiet.
But he’s chosen a place that is inhabited by a
ghost–none other than the bewitching Brigitte Lin Ching Hsia.
Complications arise because the demon has other plans for the scholar…
The film offers a peak at Brigitte Lin Ching Hsia
very early in her career, years before her portrayals of strong and
dominating characters in classics like Peking Opera Blues, Swordsman II,
and The Bride With White Hair.
