During the period of Agrarian Revolutionary, the family of Zhao Yongsheng at TongBo mountainous area sold his sister Xiaohua because of poverty. However, he adopted Dong Hongguo, the daughter of a revolutionary and renamed her Xiaohua for the purpose of protecting revolutionary's offspring. They lived like blood sister and brother. 土地革命時期，在桐柏山區，趙永生一家因貧窮把親妹妹小花賣給人家，但為了保護革命的後代，又收養了革命者的女兒董紅果并改名為小花，趙永生與董紅果像親兄妹一樣相依為命。

後來，趙永生為躲避壯丁，被迫離家逃走，當了解放軍。趙永生的親妹妹被賣後，經過曲折的經歷，成長為一名出色的游擊隊長英雄，名叫何翠姑。在一次攻打縣城中，趙永生、小花、翠姑三兄妹經過戰火的洗禮終於團聚。
