The Litter On The Breeze (First Love) (1997)
初纏戀后 的 兩人世界
Director: Eric Kot (Man
Fai)
Starring:
Takeshi Kaneshiro, Karen Mok Man-Wai
Two stories about the beginnings and ends of a
first romance rehashes Producer Wong Kar-Wai's theme of an
incommunicable sleep-walking romance.
Two tales of first love: before and after. Before:
Takeshi Kaneshiro is a shy boy who enjoys being a garbage collector on
night shift, a time in which he can have the whole street to himself. He
cannot recall how the whole thing happened, but one night he finds
himself watching the teenage sleepwalker Li Wei-wei, and he realizes he
wants to keep seeing her. He doesn't understand that this is love. The
world of a clear-minded boy and the world of a sleepwalker girl begin to
merge. The girl soon wakes up from her sleepwalking, and wants to know
everything about those hours. Meanwhile, the boy is enjoying himself so
much he can no longer tell dreaming from being awake.
After: Karen Mok is the lonely woman who dominates
the heart of Eric Kot Man-fai. The two have been lovers, a very
passionate first love. The sort of love that marks you with an aftermath
that you won't begin to understand until long after it happens. Eric
used to think he got over that love. He got married. It isn't until he
sees Karen one day that he senses something is wrong. The precision of
the pain makes him wince, in a part of himself he thought he had long
ago cut off and thrown away. Between their past and present, a man and a
woman struggle to find an end to their first love.
